This post is only applicable for people who are having a savings bank account in SBI. Here I am discussing how to avoid exchange rate (commission) charges while making a demand draft via SBI.
If you are a student then you may frequently need to take a DD for applying to various jobs and recruitment notifications. Generally SBI charges some commission for issuing a DD. At present SBI charges Rs.30/- + some other cash charges to issue a DD up to Rs.10,000/-. Do you know that there is a way to completely avoid commission charges in SBI?
In order to avoid commission charges in SBI you need a active Net banking account in SBI. Log in and go to the Payment/Transfers tab. Here you will find a link Issue Demand Draft. Just follow the procedure and obtain a print out of your transaction also known as counterfoil and visit your nearest branch with this slip and they will issue your DD instantly.
You may also receive your DD without going to branch via courier. But here courier charges will be applied separately. Also it may take more time to arrive DD at your home address. So I think it's better to collect your DD by visiting home branch.
At present the commission rates applicable for online DD transactions are as given below.
Majority of times our DD amount is always less than Rs.10,000/-. So we don't need to pay any commission at all. By this way we can save exchange rate as well as we don't need to stand in the long queue to deposit our money in order to issue demand draft. Hope you will make use of this feature next time you need a DD. Let me know if you are facing any problem in getting DD online.
